Issue 1 (November 2007)
Welcome to Travel Namibia, a magazine which aims to inspire you to visit our country – to climb the world’s highest dunes at Sossusvlei, marvel at its ancient history, track rare rhinos in Damaraland, and enjoy time with us, the people of Namibia. Everywhere you go, from the top of the Brandberg mountain to the depths of Fish River Canyon, you will find Namibians who are intensely proud of their nation, with its pristine empty deserts, fascinating towns and abundant wildlife.

This edition of Travel Namibia is all about driving yourselves through the country, which I believe is the best way of discovering what Namibia is really all about. Taken carefully, our roads are safe and easy to navigate – all 42,000 kms of them. And, while so much of Namibia can be reached on good tar road, once you have grown in confidence behind the wheel there are fabulous adventures to be had off-road and on minor routes.

So read on and enjoy planning your trip. I promise, once you drive Namibia, you will truly understand the meaning of the expression ‘the freedom of the open road’.
